In the Pillow Book written by Sei Shonagon in the Heian period (794-1185), there is a sentence that says the hot springs are Nanakuri no Yu (Sakakibara Onsen), Arima no Yu, and Tamatsukuri no Yu. Since ancient times, Arima’s hot spring has been popular as one of the three oldest springs in Japan, one of the three most famous springs, and even the Ozeki (highest rank) in the west of the East-West Onsen Ranking System. It is rare for a hot spring to have been visited by so many famous historical figures, from the emperor to Taikoh Hideyoshi and Chiang Kai-shek, making it a truly historic hot spring among hot springs.
In the old days, there was a very strict code of manners for bathing, and there is a record that those who did not follow the code were chased away by the bath girls. Touji is purification, and Arima Onsen is proof that it is a hot spring given to us by God. At the entrance of “Kin-no-yu,” a municipal hot spring facility operated by the Kobe Municipal Government, there remains an old stone monument that reads “Japan’s first sacred spring.
Since ancient times, Arima Onsen has been one of the most famous hot springs in Japan. A hot spring resort town that evokes a sense of history. The sound of geta (wooden clogs) of visitors can be heard from the narrow cobblestone stairs and winding alleys. This is an extraordinary hot-spring cure, and a stroll in a yukata (Japanese bathrobe) will refresh you perfectly.

Origin of Arima Onsen

A traditional famous hot spring living in modern times

Characteristics

In ancient Japanese, Ali means mountain, Ma means land.In other words, Arima is a mountainous land.
Then why is it a hot spring although there are no volcano nearby?

As a reason, Arimanoyu is not merely warmed by the geothermal activity of the volcano but merely deeply penetrated rainwater, the magma deep underground generates water vapor rich in its ingredients, cracks and gaps in the rock It is thought that it climbed to the ground surface through, and eventually became hot water.

It contains exactly the nutrients of the earth, iron and salt, and it oxidizes as it comes into contact with air, and it turns into a unique reddish brown salty hot water.

This is also called so-called Arima Akayu Kin-no-yu) and Kin-no-yu (Kin-no-yu), and it is popular as an effective hot spring.
